UCM and the Semantic Web Content Management Technology
The promise of the Semantic Web has been that it would facilitate large-scale integration and sharing of distributed data sources, meeting the growing demand of businesses to add value to stored data, and provide a gateway into the ‘Dark Matter’ of many businesses – terabytes of stored, dormant content. However, the transition for Semantic Web technologies from academic experimentation to business-class enterprise applications has proved difficult. Oracle has led the way in providing both market-leading Enterprise Content Management solutions in the Fusion Middleware range, and pioneering business-scalable Semantic Web technologies through Oracle Spatial’s RDF functionality. This presentation presents a vision for developing real-world tools and services that could be build on rich, semantically-enabled document repositories. By developing a UCM ontology and linking Spatial into the Service-Oriented Architecture of UCM, a new generation of toolsets can be created that allow analysis and mining of document repositories in innovative and useful ways.
